In the 38 years of its existence, no animal experiments whatsoever have been carried out at Augsburg University Hospital, but clinical research has been carried out at a high level. Now the city wants to use tax money to build an "animal husbandry facility" for 23,400 mice as well as animal testing laboratories on the new medical campus of Augsburg University Hospital, the cost of which is estimated at 35 million euros. The nationwide association "Ärzte gegen Tierversuche" is demanding that the money is reallocated: it is to be used exclusively for innovative research without animal testing.
